Tanzania Overview

Tanzania – a vast and mystical land with breathtaking scenery ranging from the snow-capped peaks of Mount Kilimanjaro to the plains of Serengeti National Park – one of the world’s seven wonders. Just off her coast, lies the magical clove Island of Zanzibar with its intriguing blends of historical ruins, white beaches and winding streets of old Stone Town.

Out of the 120 tribes which populate Tanzania, the most remarkable are the Maasai who live a traditional, tribal lifestyle. Deeply connected to nature, these statuesque herdsmen can often be seen striding across the plains.

It was here in Oldupai Gorge that the anthropologists, Drs Louis and Mary Leakey, discovered the skulls of ‘Natcraker’ Man and ‘Handy’ Man both very significant links in the chain of human evolution.

As custodians of Africa’s most spectacular wilderness, the Tanzanians are fiercely protective of their natural heritage and an incredible 25% of her land area is conserved under National Park status. These parks, famous worldwide for their beauty, profusion of wildlife are home to 20% of Africa’s large mammal population and are safe havens for rare and threatened species such as Black Rhino, Cheetah and Painted Wolves.
