Burhani Sawmills was established in 1968 by Mr. Fakhruddin Akberali in Tanga, Tanzania. It is currently run by the sons of the founder, Mr. Aliasger Akberali who joined the business in 1984 after completing a Bsc. in Timber technology and a diploma in Business Administration from UK, followed by his younger brother Mr.Murtaza Akberali who has Associate degrees in applied science and accounting, furniture design and furniture production and manufacturing. It was primarily a sawmill operation and slowly has been turned into an integrated wood industry dealing with logging, sawmilling, flooring, drying, mouldings, doors, windows, office, school and household furniture's.
Burhani Sawmills has 80 employees and 95% of the products are sold locally and nationally. The primary source of raw Show more
materials are from sustainable forest plantations owned by the government. All the products manufactured are solid wood products. The species of the woods used primarily are teak, eucalyptus, cedar, cypress, pine, gravillea and coconut wood from the plantations, and iroko, mahogany and blackwood from indigenous forests.
