The Tanzania Insurance Regulatory Authority (TIRA) is the regulatory body responsible for the supervision, regulation and development of the insurance sector in Tanzania. It was established in October 2001 by the Insurance Regulatory Authority Act (CAP 243), with the objectives of protecting policyholders, enhancing and developing the insurance sector, and promoting competition in the insurance market. TIRA promotes sound and prudent management of insurance companies, in order to ensure the protection of policyholders and other interested parties. Furthermore, it monitors and enforces compliance with insurance laws and regulations, and works to ensure the development of a healthy and stable insurance industry in Tanzania.
